Energy-Efficient Ventilation Delivers 39% Savings at Aquatic Center

– ROI of less than 2 years

Gigantium achieves annual savings of 91,980 kWh with HVLS fans

In 2024, Gigantium Swimhall launched a project with a clear goal: to reduce energy consumption and improve sustainability in building operations – without compromising indoor climate quality.

In collaboration with Nordicco, they installed energy-efficient HVLS fans, combined with smart data monitoring and system tuning, achieving significant energy savings.

Reduced emissions, energy use & operating costs

The energy-efficiency project

Three large Nordicco fans were strategically placed above the swimming pools to improve air circulation. Additionally, Power Tracking Modules were installed to collect energy consumption data within the Northern Sky® platform.

From August to December 2024, the project team successfully reduced the ventilation system’s power usage from 27 kW to 16.5 kW – a significant reduction of 39%.

The energy optimization was driven by data collection, continuous monitoring, and valuable user feedback. Step-by-step adjustments were made to fine-tune air volume, air pressure, and recirculation levels to maximize energy efficiency.

The project has been a great experience with excellent collaboration.
We’ve gained significant value – both through energy savings and a deeper understanding of ventilation principles.

The results speak for themselves

It's a waste of energy not to act

The project at Gigantium demonstrates how simple measures, combined with HVLS technology and data collection, can enhance indoor climate and achieve significant savings when integrated with existing ventilation systems.

Savings in CO2 emissions, energy, and costs – without the need for renovations and without disrupting operations.

technical report

Dive into the detailed technical report on the project.

Here, you’ll find all the details, including specific operational settings from the logbook.

Power consumption reduced

Operational adjustments were made gradually, and project data were carefully monitored. This included reducing the minimum setpoints for the fresh air damper and lowering the air pressure in the ventilation system after the HVLS fans were activated.

Over time, the optimal balance between the ventilation system and HVLS fans was achieved. By the end of the commissioning period, the ventilation system’s power had been reduced from 27 to 16.5 kW (see figure).
